FOOD OVER FAITH?!

“Food for the body. Truth for the soul. Faith for everyday life.”

Meet Shanika Graham-White

Founder and Chief Editor

Food Over Faith is a space for Christians who want to understand the Word of God, grow deeper in their faith, heal from the things that have shaped them, navigate everyday life biblically, and discover the beautiful connection between faith and the table.

Because we weren’t created to live on bread alone.

Inspired by Deuteronomy 8:3, Food Over Faith was built on a simple truth: we need nourishment for both body and soul.

Here, we don’t separate faith from real life. We talk about Scripture, spiritual growth, emotional healing, relationships, womanhood, food, fasting, hospitality, and the everyday places where following Jesus becomes more than something we believe—it becomes how we live.

Welcome to Food Over Faith—where Scripture meets real life and the table.

Hey, I’m Shanika!

I’m a writer, Bible teacher, food creator, recipe developer, cookbook author, wife, mom, and the founder of Food Over Faith.

For years, much of my creative work centered around food. Through Orchids + Sweet Tea, I built a career developing recipes, photographing food, writing about it, and helping people become more confident in the kitchen.

But over time, God began expanding what I understood nourishment to mean.

Food can nourish the body, but it cannot nourish the deepest places of the soul.

I’ve walked through seasons of hardship, healing, surrender, rebuilding, and learning what it actually means to follow Jesus beyond simply knowing about Him. Through those experiences, God cultivated in me a deeper hunger for His Word and a desire to help others understand Scripture and apply it to the places where faith gets real.

Food Over Faith grew from that intersection:

my love for food, my love for writing, and my growing conviction that God’s Word is the nourishment we cannot live without.

Today, my hope is to create thoughtful, biblically grounded resources that help Christians understand what Scripture actually says, grow spiritually, navigate life’s difficult places, and become increasingly rooted in Christ.

Not just informed by the Word.

Transformed by it.

What you’ll find here

Why “Food Over Faith?”

The name is intentionally provocative. Because the answer to Food Over Faith? is:

Nah—you need both.

Our Value

Everything we create is designed to help nourish your faith and equip you to live it out.

Bible Explained

Go beyond isolated verses and discover what Scripture actually means in context.

Christian Living

Faith isn’t meant to stay inside Bible study.

Biblical Healing

Sometimes what happened behind us affects how we walk with God in front of us.

Relationships + Womanhood

Following Jesus changes how we love people, build relationships, establish boundaries, approach marriage, navigate family, cultivate friendship, and understand womanhood.

Devotionals

Sometimes you don’t need another deep study. You need a moment to sit with God.

Food + Faith

The Bible has a lot to say around the table. Bread. Fasting. Feasts. Manna. Hospitality. Hunger. Harvests. Fish. Wine. Breaking bread. Feeding people.

Our bodies need physical nourishment.

Our souls need something food could never provide.

Deuteronomy 8:3 reminds us:

“Man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD.”

Jesus later echoes this truth in Matthew 4:4.

And in John 6:35, He takes it even deeper when He declares:

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.”

That’s the heartbeat behind Food Over Faith.

We can spend enormous amounts of time thinking about what we’ll eat next, how we’ll care for our bodies, what we’ll accomplish, what we’ll earn, what we’ll build, and what we’ll experience.

And yet remain spiritually hungry.

Food Over Faith exists to bring our attention back to the nourishment that lasts.

The Word.
The truth.
Jesus.

While still recognizing that food, tables, relationships, homes, bodies, and ordinary life can all become places where that faith is lived.

Our Mission

To help Christians understand God’s Word and live nourished lives rooted in biblical truth.

We are committed to creating thoughtful, Scripture-centered resources that help believers:

  • understand the Bible in context
  • grow in spiritual maturity
  • apply Scripture to everyday life
  • identify and heal unhealthy emotional patterns through biblical truth
  • build healthier, Christ-centered relationships
  • discover the biblical significance of food, fasting, hospitality, and the table
  • become increasingly rooted, fruitful, and obedient followers of Jesus

We aren’t interested in making Scripture fit culture.

We’re interested in learning how to let Scripture transform us.

More Than Bread

Food Over Faith isn’t about choosing between caring for the body and feeding the soul.

It’s about putting both in their proper place.

It’s gathering around the table while remembering Who ultimately provides.

It’s enjoying food while understanding that it cannot satisfy our deepest hunger.

It’s learning Scripture so that we don’t merely quote it—but understand it.

It’s allowing God to address our relationships, wounds, habits, desires, ambitions, decisions, and everyday lives.

And it’s becoming people whose lives actually bear the fruit of what we say we believe.

Understand the Word.
Nourish your soul.
Gather around the table.
Live your faith.

Welcome to Food Over Faith.
